When was the last time you watched a world-class Nepali cinema?
I would say it has been a while. I watched the film "Acharya" almost a year and a half after I watched "Ek Din Ek Raat." I am not one of those avid film watchers, due to my difficult schedules and all that. But more than just an average film watcher, I believe my reason to watch more Nepali film has increased because of the fact that I've decided to take a plunge into mainstream Nepali cinema as a graphic artist and into independent filmmaking as a screenwriter and a director (well, the latter being just an enthusiastic move.) I am definitely thinking of grabbing some copies of DVDs (downloading torrent is always illegal and I will never endorse that) from the market and watching them during the Tihar recess.
Come August 2011: I come in touch with an incredible bunch of people producing this off-the-beat feature film called "Highway." The premise and the setting of the film interests me, and I dig in deeper to know more about the film. I was happy it was directed by the same Deepak Rauniyar whose film Chaukaith I saw created quite a "thing" at the KIMFF in Kathmandu. I guessed it would be quite an exciting adventure to become a part of this film, and eventually I did land up doing the publicity designs for this much awaited film. And I can tell you the pride and excitement I feel to call myself a crew member of this wonderful, wonderful project called "Highway." The feeling is just so enthralling.
But, the film has not been completed yet. There are quite a number of tasks remaining, such as the color correction, sound design and nitty-gritty post-production details. So Highway is inviting everyone to help complete the film by funding the film through a Kickstarter project. However, the goal of raising USD 30,000 hasn't completed as of today (24 October 2011). So it would be terrific if you could take a moment to check out renowned actor/producer/director Danny Glover's message on why you should help fund this incredible project called "Highway."
If you can become a part of this project by helping fund it, Highway, in turn, promises to deliver you an international-class Nepali film you've always wanted all this while
